The rust and rusted objects are the medium as well as the content of this work. The work is concerned with remnants of our culture. Objects left by the side of the road, left on the banks of the river, protruding out of Lake Michigan – things that had a purpose in the past but now are left to be reclaimed by nature, ie. water, wind, sun, ice …
The work is a combination of media that include graphite, acrylic paint and rusted found objects that deposit rust on the paper, imprinting it.
I am interested in areas where rivers, streams and lakes have been polluted by factories and industry. The water is not clear, the color of it does not reflect the sky. I take photographs to document this color. Maps show the areas that I document. The paintings show the color of the water with rust and imprints of objects that may be found (left) in the area.
