Description

This work deals with the humbling and menacing power of nature on an urban environment. I explore the paradox that exists between the awesome destructiveness of this power and its remarkable beauty.

These ideas are depicted in my work through the oppositional relationships between the fluid and the static and the organic and the geometric. These ideas are expressed in the form and by the medium. The paintings are done with sumi ink on cold pressed Water Color paper and Japanese Torinoko paper. The ‘wateriness’ of the ink allows the media to mimic the fluidity and organic forms conceptualized by the work.
